A living history ranch

Established in 1879 and located just fifteen miles from Sedona, the historic A4 Ranch at Southwestern Academy is a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational institution. With 120 private acres surrounded on all sides by National Forest land, the A4 is available year-round for facility rentals.

Rimrock Room

The Rimrock Room’s 3000 square feet is perfect for dining, assemblies, and weddings.

Courtyard

Just outside of the Rimrock Room, the exterior courtyard provides a peaceful oasis for small gatherings.

Indoor Pool

Indoor heated pool with 900 square feet of surface area, the temperature is maintained at 80 F or above.

Hogan

Conference/Activity Room of 1300 square feet, with a maximum capacity of 45 people.

West Lawn

Once the site of the west pastures, the West Lawn is now several acres of green grasses and mature trees.

Sinagua Bunkhouse

Currently under renovation, the Sinagua Bunkhouse will have 40 beds when completed in late winter 2026.

Coconino Bunkhouse

Currently under light renovation, the Coconino Bunkhouse has 32 beds.

Hays Bunkhouse

Currently under renovation, the Hays Bunkhouse will have 24 beds when completed in late winter 2026.

Cabin 5

Cabin 5 is a duplex layout, with each side having a bedroom and private bath. Both bedrooms have private exterior entrances.

Sam’s Place

A mid-sized activity room of 650 square feet, suitable for groups of 12-15.

East Lawn

Previously where the east corrals were located, now the East Lawn is a lush field for local deer and coatimundis.

Cabin 4

Cabin 4 is a duplex layout, with each side having a bedroom and private bath. Both bedrooms have private exterior entrances.

Main Building

Main Building with Registration, Office and Recreation Room.

Casner House

Named for the Casner family who homesteaded the A4 Ranch in 1879. Two bedrooms (each with a private bath), plus a large spacious living area and a full kitchen.

Cabin 3

Cabin 3 is a duplex layout, with each side having a bedroom and private bath. Both bedrooms have private exterior entrances. Cabin 3 also boasts a spacious central common area that separates the two bedrooms.

Springtime

The spring bloom is a special time of year.

Phoenix Building

Currently under renovation, Phoenix has three activity rooms, each of them being able to accommodate small groups (8-10 people).

Gymnasium

A short walk leads to the full sized gymnasium, complete with climbing wall and weight training equipment.

History of the A4

The A4 Ranch has a storied history stretching back over 145 years. Homesteaded by the Riley Casner family in 1879, the property that became the A4 Ranch was a wondrous location in the Verde Valley region. A natural spring provided an abundance of water for domestic and irrigation uses, and combined with over a half mile of Beaver Creek frontage, the narrow canyon was a lush oasis among the millions of acres of surrounding arid landscape.
